Claire Thomas is a Melbourne writer. Her award-winning debut novel, Fugitive Blue, was first published in 2008 with a new edition in 2021. Her second novel, The Performance, is being published internationally in 2021. She is currently working on her third novel.

Claire has been the recipient of many scholarships and awards, including an Australia Council for the Arts New Work grant, the Dobbie Award for Women Writers, and the Felix Meyer Prize.

Claire holds an honours degree in art history and English, and a PhD from the University of Melbourne where she taught literary studies and creative writing for many years.

She has three young children and works from a tiny studio at the Abbotsford Convent.
